FAQ

Short answers about C2PA, privacy and limits.

What is C2PA?

C2PA (Content Credentials) is a standard for embedding a signed provenance manifest in media files. AI tools such as Adobe Firefly, OpenAI and Google attach it to generated content.

How do I remove C2PA metadata from an image?

Drop the image on the StripC2PA home page and click “Strip & download”. You get a copy without the C2PA manifest, EXIF, XMP, IPTC and AI parameters. From scripts, POST the file to /api/strip.

How can I check whether a file has Content Credentials?

Drop it on StripC2PA. Every file is scanned before anything is removed, showing whether a C2PA manifest is present, the claim generator (for example Adobe Firefly or ChatGPT) and other AI signals. Scanning never modifies the file.

Does stripping change image quality?

No. StripC2PA never decodes or re-encodes pixels or video frames. It only removes metadata segments, chunks or boxes and fixes the container structure.

Are my files stored?

No. Files are processed in memory within the request and discarded when the response is sent. Logs contain only file type, size and timing.

Does this remove invisible watermarks?

No. Pixel-level watermarks (for example SynthID) are part of the image data, not metadata. StripC2PA only handles metadata.

Which formats are supported?

JPEG, PNG, WebP, MP4 and MOV (ISO-BMFF), and ZIP archives containing them. HEIC/AVIF are not supported yet.

Is there a limit?

The free tier allows a fixed number of files per day per network. When it is reached the API returns HTTP 402.

Can I use it from the command line?

Yes. The same features are available over HTTP: POST a file as multipart/form-data to /api/scan for a JSON report or to /api/strip for the cleaned file. No account or API key is needed for the free tier.
